Most of the thoroughbreds have left Hallandale Beach for the season, but great racing continues at Gulfstream Park via simulcasting, and taking in the sport in the luxury of Sport of Kings Saturday was actor Matt Damon.
Star of the poker-themed movie “Rounders” and the casino-themed movies “Oceans 11,” “Oceans 12” and “Oceans 13,” Damon is a 38-year-old Boston native and South Florida resident who regularly frequents Gulfstream Park when not on location.
Joining him Saturday was his wife, Luciana Barroso, and guests. Damon, his wife and their party concentrated on playing horses at the Sport of Kings, passing on an opportunity to play a few hands in a poker tournament.
In 1998, the same year that “Rounders” was released, he played in a $10,000 buy-in Texas Hold ‘Em tournament at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. He was knocked out in the first round by famed poker player Doyle Brunson.
Damon had kings; Brunson aces.
Sport of Kings is open every day for simulcasting; poker hands are dealt from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m.
