The list of likely starters is topped by Curlin, who won his career debut at Gulfstream Park last year before going on to victories in the Preakness, Jockey Club Gold Cup and Breeders’ Cup Classic, all of which carried him to Horse of the Year honors. A second victory in the Gold Cup would make him the first horse to reach the $10 million plateau in career earnings.  On the West Coast, Santa Anita features eight Grade 1 stakes spread over the Saturday and Sunday cards, each with Breeders’ Cup implications.
