 Career:

• His fortunes soared to dizzying heights last winter when he took the title at Gulfstream Park

• Got his U.S. career started at Gulfstream in 2003 and five years later finished third in the standings and pulled down a Grade 1 victory here. He has already won championships at Tampa Bay Downs, the Meadowlands and in 2008 unseated Joe Bravo atop the Monmouth Park standings. He was the first jockey other than Bravo to win the title there in five years

• Won the Gulfstream Park Turf last year aboard Einstein and took the inaugural Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf aboard Maram

• Broke out in 2005 at Tampa when he began riding first call for leading trainer Kirk Ziadie and went on to dominate the standings over the next two winters.

Other:  Yet another talented graduate of the Laffit Pincay Jockey School in Panama, he rode for two years there before coming to the U.S.
