- Former titleholder at Hialeah and Calder now an established leader in the Gulfstream colony, usually arriving in South Florida after a dominant summer at Arlington Park and 2008 was no exception. He easily outpaced his rivals in Chicago last summer with 107 wins. It was his second straight riding title after 129 wins in 2007
- He also won a title at Hollywood Park in 2004
- He won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies in 2006 with Dreaming of Anna for one of his biggest career victories since winning the 1996 Belmont Stakes on Editor’s Note. He rode Noonmark to win the 2008 Mr. Prospector Handicap and Mauralakana in the Very One Handicap for Gulfstream stakes wins and eventually scored two Grade 1 wins in the Manhattan with Dancing Forever and Secretariat Stakes with Winchester
- Other top mounts over the years include: Solvig, The Vid, Lismore Knight, Hibernian Rhapsody, Caltech, Kaiteur, Sharp Cat, Ballingarry, Bare Necessities, Tamweel, Christmas Kid and Light Jig
- First winner was Betitio Che in Panama
- After a year and a half of riding in Panama, he immigrated to the United States in 1983.
- Other: Attended jockey school and followed his brothers and father, both owners and trainers, into racing ... he missed the latter part of 2005 when that brother died and when his father became ill with cancer. He died in 2006.
