Career:
- Signaled his arrival as a top jockey on the circuit by sweeping the four stakes on on opening weekend last year. That flashy start came on the heels of a previous year dominating Midwest circuits as the go-to guy for national training leader Steve Asmussen.
- The decision to work the tough New York/South Florida circuit in 2006 cut into win totals that saw him ranked among the Top 20 jockeys in the country the previous year, but left him positioned to put quality stakes on his resume. That paid off with a Grade 1 score aboard Appealing Zophie in the Spinaway at Saratoga - his first Grade 1 victory since teaming with Evening Attire in the 2002 Jockey Club Gold Cup and his fourth top-level stakes win overall. He won the 1998 Eclipse Award as top apprentice and tied for the Spring 2002 title at Aqueduct with John Velazquez.
- He was ranked among the Top 10 riders in New York each year from 1998-2003.
Other: Born in Jamaica but grew up in South Florida, graduating high school in 1997. He became interested in racing by attending the track on weekends with his father Gerald, an avid fan. He worked his way up the ladder, starting as a hot walker before moving up to be a groom and, after a few years, an exercise rider. He won his first race at Calder in August 1997 aboard Glitter Lad. Was the recepient of the Caribbean Sportsman Award, given to outstanding Jamaican athletes.
