Career

  • Added to his reputation as an expert with female turf horses with four stakes victories from four fillies at Gulfstream in 2007, taking the Marshua’s River with Bright Abundance, the Suwannee River Handicap with Naissance Royale, The Very One Handicap with Royal Highness and the Magna Distaff with Vacare. Clement has won the Suwannee River four times, the Orchid Handicap six times and The Very One five times. He is also a three-time winner of South Florida’s top turf race for males, the Gulfstream Park Turf 
  • Saddled Correta to runner-up finish in the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Gulfstream in 1999.

  • His best dirt runner in recent years has been Dynever, who won the 2003 Aventura Stakes, finished third in that year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic and was second in the  2005 Hal’s Hope Handicap. Also trains leading sprinter In Summation, winner of the 2007 Bing Crosby at Del Mar and a past runner in the Sunshine Millions.

  • Sent out Proud Man to win 2004 Sunshine Millions Turf … Other top runners have included Danish, Flag Down, Forbidden Apple, Honor Glide and Voodoo Dancer.

  • Calls his 1992 win in what was then called the Gulfstream Park Breeders’ Cup Handicap with Passagere du Soir, "By far the most important in my career."  


Other: Is the son of successful European trainer Miguel and brother of Nicolas Clement who saddled Saumerez to capture the 1990 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe … Apprenticed under Luca Cumani and Alec Head in Europe and Shug McGaughey in the U.S. before starting his own stable in 1991 … Won with the first horse he saddled, Spectaculaire, at Belmont Park on Oct. 20, 1991.
