 Career:

  • South Florida-based most of the season, Ritvo began splitting his winter string between Gulfstream and Aqueduct in 2007 and won two stakes at the Big A last year with Dance Gal Dance 
  • He won his first training title at the 2005 Calder summer meet
  • He had his best Gulfstream stand in 2002, ranking fifth with 16 wins
  • Best horse to date has been Lord Juban, a multiple stakes winner at Calder and the runner-up in Gulfstream’s 2002 Palm Beach Stakes
  • Other top training successes came with 1999 Tropical Derby winner Valid Reprized and Sweet Jab
  • Started training as an assistant to wife Kathy and as a team they captured the 1994 Calder Breeders’ Cup Handicap with Liberada 
  • Ritvo took out his own trainer’s license in 1997 

Other recent stakes winners have included R Obsession, Class of Seventy and Tishmeister, winner of the 2007 New York Stallion Statue of Liberty Stakes at Saratoga. Other: Grew up near Suffolk Downs and began working as an exercise rider as a teenager … After high school graduation, began riding professionally and won 122 races in 1986, his first year in the saddle … Won over 500 races and $5 million in purses in a four-year riding career … Gave up riding in 1990 and worked as racing official at Suffolk before relocating to Florida a year later … Wife Kathy is the sister of mid-Atlantic trainer Mike Petro and jockey Nick Petro.
