Dreaming of Anna Arrives at Palm Meadows

The third Breeders’ Cup winner to take up residence at Palm Meadows this season arrived Thanksgiving Day when trainer Wayne Catalano shipped in Dreaming of Anna, winner of the Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs Nov. 4.

The 2-year-old filly joins Distaff winner Round Pond and Classic winner, and likely Horse of the Year, Invasor at the Boynton Beach training facility.

Dreaming of Anna won all four of her 2006 starts, a campaign that culminated in her 1½-length tally over Octave in the Juvenile Fillies. Frank Carl Calabrese owns and bred the daughter of Rahy, whose four starts came at four racetracks. Her second and third tries, the Tippet at Colonial and the Summer at Woodbine, came over the turf.

Round Pond is a 4-year-old filly trained by Michael Matz, who prepared Barbaro for Florida Derby and Kentucky Derby conquests from his Palm Meadows base. Round Pond was a surprise when she won the Distaff at 14-1.

In the money in all 11 of her career starts, she has earned $1.9 million and counts among her victories, in addition to the Distaff, the Grade 1 Acorn at Belmont Park and the Grade 2 Fantasy and Grade 3 Azeri at Oaklawn Park.

Fox Hill Farms Inc. owns the daughter of Awesome Again.

The 4-year-old Invasor was undefeated in a four-race American campaign that saw him register Grade 1 victories in the Pimlico Special at Pimlico, the Suburban at Belmont and the Whitney at Saratoga prior to his Classic tally. Invasor is an Argentine-bred son of Candy Stripes, owned by Shadwell Stable, who has earned $3.9 million in his career while winning nine of 10 in his career. He is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.
