Career:
- Won the Eclipse Award as outstanding apprentice in 1999 when he was among the leading jockeys in New York.
- Grew up in California and started riding there in 1998, but moved with his parents to New York and caught on as a bug-rider at Aqueduct.
- Has worked as journeyman mainly in New York and Florida, although he went to Singapore for four months at the start of 2006. He also rode in Chicago with modest success in 2005 and 2006.
- His biggest career rides came when teamed with top sprinter Peeping Tom in 2003, who won two stakes, including Smith’s only career graded score in the DeVine Memorial at Philadelphia Park.
