-
Won his first Eclipse Award in 2006 largely because of his performances on star-crossed Florida Derby and Kentucky Derby champion Barbaro. He was credited with helping that colt survive the ankle fracture he suffered early in the Preakness Stakes by quickly pulling him up. He was a regular visitor in the ensuing months before Barbaro finally succumbed to laminitis in January 2007.
-
His victory in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff aboard Round Pond (his third Breeders’ Cup victory), coincidentally for Barbaro’s trainer, Michael Matz, also led to Prado’s Eclipse Award.
-
He won his second consecutive (and third career) Florida Derby aboard Scat Daddy in 2007. It was one of 10 stakes wins at Gulfstream last year. He finished second in the overall standings by wins and led the colony in earnings.
-
He received the 2006 Mike Venezia Award from the New York Racing Association and 2006 ESPY from ESPN voters.
-
Captured his 5,000th career win at Gulfstream in 2004 in the Swale Stakes aboard Wynn Dot Comma.
-
He broke his ankle last September and missed the major fall races and the Breeders’ Cup.
-
He has won two Belmont Stakes, both in upsets, with Birdstone over Smarty Jones in 2004 and aboard Sarava in 2002, which paid a record $142.50.
-
Led nation in wins three straight years (1997 - 1999) while riding primarily in Maryland, and became the only rider ever to win 400 races in three consecutive years.
-
Moved tack to New York-Florida circuit and captured his first NYRA riding title at Belmont in Fall, 2000. He also topped Saratoga standings in 2002.
-
Won NTRA All-Star Jockey Championship in both 2000 and 2003. Captured Gulfstream’s two most prestigious races in 2002 when taking the Florida Derby with Harlan’s Holiday and the Donn Handicap with Mongoose.
