Stuart Janney III

Chairman of Bessemer Trust Co., and prominent leader with The Jockey Club, T.O.B.A., Breeders' Cup, Keeneland, and the NTRA

From Butler, Md., he is the son of Barbara Phipps Janney and Stuart S. Janney Jr.

His parents bred and raced the champion filly Ruffian and his grandmother Mrs. Henry Carnegie Phipps raced as Wheatley Stable, which campaigned Horse of the Year and leading sire Bold Ruler

Education: University of North Carolina & University of Maryland Law School

After receiving his law degree in 1973, worked four years as a speech writer and policy assistant in the offices of Maryland Senator Charles Mathias, Tennessee Senator Howard Baker, and the U. S. State Department. Was general counsel for Johns Hopkins before moving to Bessemer Trust in 1994
