Career

  • Five-time Eclipse Award winner was third in earnings nationally in 2007, boosted by Frank Stronach’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff champion Ginger Punch.
  • Was inducted into racing’s Hall of Fame in 1995.
  • He Set records in both earnings and Grade 1 wins in 2003.
  • In addition to Ginger Punch, graded-stakes winners from Frankel’s stable in 2007 include Citronnade, Precious Kitten, Sugar Shake, Out of Control and Saint Anddan. His trainees swept both male and female turf Eclipse Awards for 2005, with Intercontinental named top grass female after her victory in that year’s Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf and Leroidesanimaux top male after his runner-up performance in the BC Mile.
  • Trained Ghostzapper to Eclipse Award as Horse of the Year in 2004.
  • Has one Triple Crown race victory: The 2003 Belmont Stakes with Empire Maker, who earlier that year set a Florida Derby-record winning margin of 9 3/4 lengths.
  • Past major winners at Gulfstream include Medaglia d’Oro, Midas Eyes, Badge of Silver and Sightseek. He also trained Cacique, Aldebaran, Melhor Ainda and Peace Rules.
  • Won 26 trainers’ titles at California tracks since moving his base there from N.Y. in 1972 and won Del Mar’s Pacific Classic four straight years from 1992-1995.
