Career:
-
Presumptive winner of his fourth straight Eclipse Award for his 2007 campaign. He won his fourth straight Gulfstream Park title last season despite missing the first month of the year serving a suspension.
-
Led the nation in earnings and was within a million dollars in November of surpassing his own record for money won in a year. He set records for stakes wins, graded-stakes wins and yearly earnings in 2006 - surpassing his mentor D. Wayne Lukas in the stakes categories.
-
The highlight of his year was the victory by the filly Rags to Riches in the Belmont Stakes, giving him his first win in a Triple Crown race. He had lost with his previous 28 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont starters. He also won the Florida Derby for the first time with Scat Daddy. It was one of nine stakes victories on the 2007 season that came in bunches.
-
On Florida Derby Day and Fountain of Youth Day he won three stakes on each card, with Scat Daddy taking the main event both times. He tallied five times on the March 3 Fountain of Youth card, narrowly missed a sixth win by a nose, scored his fifth career win in the Hutcheson Stakes with King of the Roxy and later that day won twice at Santa Anita including the Robert Lewis Memorial with Sam P.
-
His other stakes winners were Twilight Meteor, Audacious Chloe, Half Ours, Wait a While, Safari Queen and A.P. Arrow. Eventual champions Lawyer Ron and English Channel both started their 2007 seasons at Gulfstream with record-setting victories. Assistant Anthony Sciametta won 20 times, including two stakes during Pletcher’s suspension.
-
Finished third in the standings. Pletcher holds the record for wins at Saratoga, saddling 35 winners in both 2003 and 2004. He has won a total of 18 trainer’s titles in the past eight years at New York tracks.
