Gulfstream Park recorded $1,208,374 in wagers over the two-day Breeders’ Cup extravaganza from Santa Anita last Friday and Saturday.
The total nearly doubled the $684,962 recorded over last year’s comparable period.
“This year’s figures illuminate the growing popularity of this venue,” said Gulfstream Park President and General Manager Bill Murphy. “Staffing and service have been right on the mark, and, when you consider the variety, amenities and comforts we offer here, we can’t say
we’re surprised by the business we did. We handled a large, off-season crowd quite well.”
All of Gulfstream Park’s venues were opened for the event: both casinos; Christine Lee’s and Ten Palms restaurants; the Sport of Kings entertainment room and Silks, Gulfstream’s simulcast central (at left, as it appeared on BC Saturday).
This past Friday – “Ladies Day” for Breeders’ Cup Ltd., and a day when advance bets could be made on Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup card – $428,528 went through Gulfstream Park’s windows. On the comparable day last year, $190,695 was wagered.
On Saturday, a day highlighted by the Breeders’ Cup Classic, $779,846 was wagered at Gulfstream Park, as compared to $494,267 for last year.
Most of the action took place in Silks, where $212,422 was wagered Friday and $374,684 was wagered Saturday. Ten Palms came very close to handling $250,000 over the two days, the Finish Line Casino went well over the $100,000 mark and Christine Lee’s approached the $80,000 plateau.
