Shes All Eltish Posts Mild Upset in Bonnie Miss

Denholtz Stable’s Shes All Eltish burst clear from rivals in the upper stretch to draw away to a commanding 6¾-length victory in Saturday’s $150,000 Bonnie Miss Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park under jockey Eddie Castro. Richard Scanlon’s Robbies Gal was second.

Never off the board in six previous starts, Shes All Eltish stalked from third up the backstretch in the 1 1/8-mile test for 3-year-old fillies before posting her third victory as Briarwood Stable’s Fair Grounds invader Highest Class finished a non-threatening third as the 8-5 favorite, three-quarters of a length behind the runner-up. Paul Pompa Jr.’s second choice Bacjkseat Rhythm finished fourth in the field of six.

Trained by Marty Wolfson, Shes All Eltish is a Florida-bred daughter of Eltish who had finished second in a turf allowance in her previous start, and was making her stakes debut in the Bonnie Miss, a race often used as a prep for the Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs in May. Shes All Eltish paid $10.80.

Winning Jockey Quotes

Eddie Castro:

“She stayed behind the speed.  She was very relaxed on the backside.  I had a lot of horse at the three-eighth pole.  She ran off at the quarter pole.  I’ve ridden her on turf and dirt and I like her better on dirt.”

Winning Trainer Quote

Marty Wolfson:

“My whole concern was her moving too soon. She really did it easy today when she opened up like that. She needs horses to run at. I don’t know what’s next. She’s nominated for the Kentucky Oaks, but I don’t want to go there. There’s too much commotion. I’m grateful to the owners. They let me buy her privately as a yearling for $22,000.”
