Career: Started the 2012-2013 meet with victories aboard Starsilhouette and Parent's Honor in the Claiming Crown. Was the fourth leading rider during the 2013 Keeneland spring meet and finished in the top 10 in the fall meet. Won the Virginia Derby (G2) aboard War Dancer. Inactive during the 2011-12 season, Garcia was a top 10 jockey in both races won and purse earnings at Gulfstream in 2011. During that meeting, he rode Soldat for a victory in the Fountain of Youth (G2). He was aboard eventual Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom in his Spiral Stakes (G3) triumph at Turfway that year.
 
He visited the Saratoga winner’s circle in 2012 after Grade 1 sprint triumphs in the Forego (Emcee) and King’s Bishop (Willy Beamin). 
 
He has enjoyed much success on the New York circuit, highlighted by his upset victory aboard Da’ Tara in the 2008 Belmont Stakes. 
 
He was the leading apprentice in Peru in 2002-03 and came to America on the advice of a friend and quickly moved from exercise rider in Kentucky and New Jersey to riding and winning at the Meadowlands that fall.
 
He was the leading apprentice at the Big “M” that season but underwent an appendectomy that winter and was unable to return to racing until the following summer at Monmouth Park.
 
He gained traction in 2005 at Aqueduct. He won his first Grade 1 race aboard Lahudood in the 2007 Flower Bowl at Belmont Park and partnered with that mare to win the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Monmouth a month later. 
 
He won eight Grade 1 races in 2008 including the Da’ Tara’s upset.
 
OTHER: His father and grandfather were jockeys in Peru and he started getting on horses by age 8.
