Career: Missed most of the 2012-2013 meet recovering from injuries. Finished in the top 15 riders at the Belmont spring meet. Won the Frizette (G1) and Spinaway (G1) with Sweet Reason, who finished fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). 
After starting his career in South Florida back in 1982, Solis, who is closing in on 5000 career wins, returned from California to ride at Gulfstream the past two seasons….He parlayed an allowance victory at Gulfstream aboard Data Link into a Grade 1 victory in the Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland last spring.
Solis captured back-to-back riding titles at Gulfstream Park in 1983-84 before venturing to Southern California, where he won several titles. He won six consecutive titles on the West Coast in 1996-97 at Hollywood Park, Santa Anita Park and Del Mar Turf Club.
He captured the 1986 Preakness aboard Snow Chief.
He won a leg of the Canadian Triple Crown in August aboard filly Irish Mission in the Breeders’ Stakes at Woodbine. 
He finished second in the Kentucky Derby three out of four years with Captain Bodgit (1997), Victory Gallop (1998) and Aptitude (2000). 
Solis has won three Breeders’ Cup races aboard Kona Gold (2000 Sprint), Johar (2003 Turf) and Pleasantly Perfect (2003 Classic). He rode Pleasantly Perfect for a victory in the 2004 Dubai World Cup.
Other: Solis received the George Woolf Memorial Award in 1997 and was recognized at the Sports Legend Awards for his contribution to the sport in 2006. 
He got interested in racing at a young age and enrolled in the Panama jockey school at the age of 14. He won his first race in Panama on Nov. 7, 1981. His hobbies include golf and hiking and maintains his fitness with strenuous mountain hikes.
