Career: Chris was among the top five riders this year at Monmouth in wins and money won. Won the Ladies Turf Sprint in 2010 with Starfish Bay…Missed nine months with a broken collarbone and subsequent surgery after a spill in Nov. 2007 at Calder Race Course ... Known as the first-call jockey for the Todd Pletcher stable in New Jersey and one of Pletcher’s first options at Gulfstream after John Velazquez ... That role helped him pick up a Pegasus Stakes win aboard Atoned at the Meadowlands in 2008 as well as the 2007 Orchid Handicap at Gulfstream on Safari Queen, the Azeri at Oaklawn Park on India and the Kentucky Cup Ladies Turf at Kentucky Downs on Quiet Royal ... DeCarlo became the youngest jockey in modern times to win the prestigious Haskell at his hometown Monmouth when, at age 17, he piloted Wise Times in 1986 … Has also summered at Arlington and Belmont while returning to ride each winter at Gulfstream … He is consistently among the leaders at Monmouth and has lead the colony there in stakes victories and earnings, winning 12 races at Monmouth and the Meadowlands in 2007 ... Among his biggest Gulfstream wins came aboard Deelightful Irving in 2002 Pan American Handicap ... Spent four months riding in France in 1994. Other: Grandfather was a popular singer and racetrack aficionado in Puerto Rico where one of his fans was Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero … Cordero put him on a horse at age 4 and promised him a riding career if he stayed small in size … Took riding lessons until age 15, and then moved in with Cordero in New York where he started galloping horses for Allen Jerkens … Won aboard Romeo’s Mistress, his first mount, in New York on May 3, 1985 … The following day Cordero won his third Kentucky Derby aboard Spend a Buck
