Career: Was victorious in two stakes last winter at Gulfstream; aboard Devilish Lady in the Cherokee Frolic and John Johny Jak in the Carterista. Finished in the top 10 at Calder in the rider standings. Won the Dubai World Cup (G1), Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and Donn Handicap (G1) aboard 2006 Horse of the Year Invasor. Won the 2006 Belmont Stakes (G1) aboard Jazil. 
Other: Grandfather Hugo Jara was a jockey and trainer; his father, Jorge Jara, is a trainer. Has a sister who is a psychologist and brother who is an architect. At the age of 14 he left public school for jockey school. Came to the U.S. on Dec. 26, 2003. First graded stakes win came aboard Like Now in the Gotham.
