Phipps Stable

Ogden Mills “Dinny” Phipps is the director of Bessemer Trust and Bessemer Securities Corp. 
 
  • Co-owner and co-breeder of Orb, winner of the Florida Derby (G1), Fountain of Youth (G2) and Kentucky Derby(G1).
  • Won the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (G1) with Point of Entry over 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom.
  • The Phipps family has been involved in racing since the 1920s when Mrs. Henry Carnegie Phipps founded the Wheatley Stable. 
  • He is chairman of the Jockey Club and was NYRA chairman from 1976-83. 
  • His stable star in 2012 was Point of Entry, who won three straight Grade 1 stakes before finishing second in the Breeders’ Cup Turf. 
  • He raced five champions: Smuggler (2005 3-year-old filly) Storm Flag Flying (2002 champion 2yo filly), Inside Information (1995 Older filly or mare), Rhythm (1989 champion 2yo colt) and Successor (1966 champion 2yo colt). 
  • The Phipps family collectively has the most Breeders’ Cup wins in history. 
  • Phipps Stable under Ogden Phipps bred and raced champions Buckpasser, Easy Goer, Private Account, and Personal Ensign. 
  • Ogden Phipps won four Eclipse Awards. Dinny Phipps won an Eclipse Award of Merit in 1978.
