Career: Tagg has used Gulfstream Park and Palm Meadows as the training grounds for major 3-year-old stars, most notably 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide, who finished third behind Empire Maker and Ten Most Wanted in the Florida Derby (G1). Funny Cide, who finished third in the Belmont, went on to be named champion Eclipse Award-winning 3-year-old of 2003 and captured the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) the following year. 
Tagg has also enjoyed success in major 3-year-old stakes with 2007 Holy Bull (G3) Stakes winner Nobiz Like Shobiz, 2008 Wood Memorial (G1) winner Tale of Ekati, 2008 and Tampa Bay Derby victor Big Truck. Showing Up launched his career with a pair of victories in Gulfstream in 2006 and a triumph in the Lexington (G2) at Keeneland before finishing sixth in the Kentucky Derby. He went on to become a multiple Grade 1 stakes winner on turf. 
Other Grade 1-winning horses trained by Tagg include 2003 Alabama Stakes winner Island Fashion and 1994 Man o’ War victor Royal Mountain Inn.

Other:  He graduated from Penn State University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry. 
He served an apprenticeship as an assistant to trainer Frank Whiteley. 
He managed a farm, rode jumpers and was assistant to Hall of Fame and Breeders’ Cup-winning trainer Jonathan Sheppard before taking out a trainer’s license in 1971. 
His first winner came with Tudor’s Fancy at Liberty Bell in January, 1972.
