Career: Maker enjoyed a career year in 2013 in both races won and purse earned, while winning training titles at Churchill Downs (spring) and Keeneland (spring and fall).
He also had a productive 2012-13 meeting at Gulfstream, where he saddled four Claiming Crown winners on opening day, including Brother Bird (Iron Horse), Bernie The Maestro (Rapid Transit), Starsilhouette (Tiara) and Parent’s Honor (Jewel). He ranked second (tied with Bill Mott) with 27 winners and sixth in purses-won. 
Maker’s most high-profile horse of the 2011-12 season was Hansen, the front-running winner of the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) who made his 3-year-old debut with a second-place finish in the Holy Bull (G2). Hansen went on to win the Gotham (G3) and finish second in the Blue Grass (G1) before finishing ninth in the Kentucky Derby (G1). 
He scored a Grade 1 victory in the Jamaica at Belmont with King David, a horse he claimed for $35,000 out of his previous start. 
He visited the winner’s circle with Joha after a front-running victory in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland. 
Maker won his ninth title at Turfway in 2012. He’s also won titles at Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Kentucky Downs and Ellis Park. 
He ranked second in wins and earnings at the 2012 Keeneland spring meeting and ranked sixth in earnings at the Churchill spring meeting. 
He won his first Breeders’ Cup race with Furthest Land in the 2009 Dirt Mile. 
He notched a victory in the 2009 Blue Grass (G1) with Stately Victor, who went on to finish eighth in the Kentucky Derby.
Other: He learned from his father, George, who trained in Michigan. 
He worked for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas for 10 years, serving the last six years as his top assistant in Kentucky.
He went out on his own in 2003 and scored his first graded-stakes victory with Freefourinternet in the 2004 Hawthorn Gold Cup (G2).
