Career: Walder ended 2011 by coming up only a neck shy of winning the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) when he saddled his Vosburgh (G1) runner-up Force Freeze to a second-place finish. Also trained Sweet N Sour Nina to a third-place finish behind Horse of the Year candidate Havre de Grace in the Obeah (G3). Claimed Pyramyst for $10,000 and won the $100,000 George Rosenberger Memorial Stakes at Delaware. Consistently among the top percentage trainers in Florida, the native of Canada flirted with winning the Gulfstream title in 2008, taking turns atop the standings late into the season and finishing tied for third with 22 wins. He’s shown great efficiency with gaudy win rates at Monmouth and Gulfstream since appearing on the scene in 1996 and has since found success in Delaware Park and Arlington. His best performance came in 1998, when he struck with 58.5% winners ... He has a career 25% strike rate through 2008 ... Won first race in November 1995 with Irish Gal at Woodbine shortly after taking out his trainer’s license.  Other: List of clients has expanded over past few seasons and has included Monarch Stables and Barry Schwartz ... Introduced to racing through grandfather, an owner in Canada ... Went to Niagara University on a baseball scholarship as a pitcher but an injury derailed diamond dreams ... Left college and started working at Woodbine as a groom for trainers Roger Attfield and Alex Bankuti.
