Career: Gleaves left his mark on Gulfstream's 2012-2013 meet by saddling Bruce Hollander's and Cary Shapoff's Csaba to victories in the Hal's Hope (G3) and Harlan's Holiday. Csaba finished third in 2012 in the Palm Beach (G3). Csaba comes after Gleaves saddled Mambo Meister to multiple-stakes victories and more than $700,000.

He grew up riding show horses before coming to the U.S. in 1976. He worked a year for Lucien Laurin before becoming assistant trainer and exercise rider for Woody Stephens. He worked with top horses Swale, Devil's Bag, Smart Angle and Believe It.

Gleaves went out on his own in 1986 and saddled Wise Times to victories that year in the Travers (G1), Haskell (G1) and Super Derby (G1). He also won the Jerome Handicap (G2) and Riva Ridge that year with Evening Kris.

Other: He decided to stable exclusively in Florida in the late 1990's to raise his son, Schuyler. She started working at tracks in Europe at 15 and rode races on the continent. A fan of British rock, Gleaves remembers betting one shilling on Team Spirit to win the Grand National in 1964. "He was 10-1 and he won. I got 10 shillings back...I was hooked," he said.
