Gaffalione swept the early double Saturday, notching back-to-back wins aboard Fever Las Vegas ($4.40) and Zoom Box ($4.80) in the first and second races, respectively. Fever Las Vegas swept to the lead in the final strides in what became a four-horse finish in the Saturday opener, while Zoom Box narrowly held off a late-closing Manny Blue Boy in Race 2. Later in the sixth race, Gaffalione and High End Queen ($6.00) ran off to a decisive four-length score, which gave the 2-year-old filly her first career victory. He also gave the 4-year-old All Over It ($7.20) his maiden-breaking victory in Race 8, the gelding’s career debut.
Gaffalione, 20, has led Gulfstream’s spring/summer jockey standings since early May and is set to earn his first riding title when the current meet ends on July 1. As of Saturday, the apprentice had won 67 races at the meet, 24 more than second-leading rider Eddie Castro.
