Edgard Zayas Rides Five Winners Tuesday at Gulfstream Park

Jun 30, 2015

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Jockey Edgard Zayas rode five winners on Tuesday's eight-race program at Gulfstream Park.

The 22-year-old Puerto Rico native, who has captured several riding titles at Gulfstream and Gulfstream Park West, had missed six weeks during the spring meeting due to fractures in his right wrist and index finger before returning to action on June 6.
"It feels great, especially after not being able to ride with my fractures," said Zayas, a finalist for the 2013 Eclipse Award for apprentice jockey. "I haven't won five races in a day in a while."
Zayas, whom Hall of Famer Angel Cordero had taken under his wing prior to his highly successful apprentice year, visited the Gulfstream winners circle with A Woman With Pants ($5.60) in the first, Berry Blitz ($9) in the second, Defying Gravity ($22.60) in the fourth, Semblance of Order ($4.60) in the sixth, and Casanova Way ($10) in the seventh.
In 2014, Zayas finished fourth in the nation with 285 trips to the winner's circle.
