HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Venezuelan champion jockey Emisael Jaramillo made a return to South Florida Saturday to ride four horses on Gulfstream Park’s 11-race program.
The 38-year-old jockey, who is Venezuelan’s all-time leading rider in wins with more than 3500 trips to the winner’s circle, traveled to the South Florida specifically to maintain the mount aboard Ninfa del Cielo, who is scheduled to make her U.S. debut at Gulfstream next week.
Jaramillo, who last rode in South Florida during an international competition at Gulfstream Park West in 2002, was aboard the 2014 Venezuelan champion 3-year-old filly for a sweep of the South American country’s filly Triple Crown and eight wins (four Group 1 stakes) in 10 starts last year.
“I am very happy to have another opportunity to ride her. She had a good workout and I was very impressed by her workout,” said Jaramillo, who has ridden four winners of the Clasico International del Caribe, Latin America’s premier event for 3-year-olds.
In addition to his success with Ninfa del Cielo, Jaramillo has ridden three Venezuelan Triple Crown champions, Water Jet (2010), Taconeo (2007) and Polo Grounds (2005).
