HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The first of 37 graded stakes slated for Gulfstream Park’s 2015-2016 Championship Meet is scheduled for Saturday, Dec.12 with the 40th running of the $100,000 Rampart Stakes.

Jacks or Better Farm’s Dogwood Trail, a front-running winner of the Azalea (G3) at Gulfstream on the July 5 Summit of Speed program, and Stonestreet Stables’ Keen Pauline, who captured the Black-Eyed Susan (G2) at Pimlico May 16, top the list of 20 nominees for the mile stakes for fillies and mares. Al Shaqab Racing’s Sandiva, who finished third in the My Charmer Handicap (G3) on turf at Gulfstream Park West Nov. 21, was also nominated to the race named for the great mare with a glorious history at Gulfstream Park.

Rampart, who captured 31 races during her career, beat the boys in the first running of the Gulfstream Park Handicap in 1948, upsetting superstar Armed by a nose at 25-1.

Ben Walden Jr. and Larry Taylor’s Cali Star and Alter’s Racing Stable’s Curlin’s Princess are a pair of Marty Wolfson-trained nominees. Cali Star romped to a five-length optional claiming allowance score at Gulfstream Park West in her debut for Wolfson Nov. 18. Curlin’s Princess checked in second behind Cali Star in that race.

Gil Campbell’s Legal Laura, an impressive winner of the Millions Distaff Preview at Gulfstream Park Nov. 7; and Holly Crest Farm’s Stiffed, a graded stakes-placed filly who captured the Jersey Girl Handicap at Monmouth Park Sept. 12; are also among the prominent nominees.

The Rampart will be supported by three $100,000 stakes on the Dec. 12 card: the Harlan’s Holiday, El Prado and South Beach.

Cheyenne Stable and Mac Nichol’s Madefromlucky, a two-time winner during the 2014-2015 Championship Meet who went on to win the Peter Pan (G2) and West Virginia Derby (G3), is prominent among the 20 nominees for the Harlan’s Holiday, a 1 1/16-mile stakes for 3-year-olds and up.

Crossed Sabres Farm’s Lochte and Al Shaqab Racing’s Mshawish, both Grade 1 winners over the Gulfstream turf course, top the list of 33 nominations for the El Prado, a 7 ½-furlong test for 3-year-olds and up.

Sandiva is also among 31 nominees for the South Beach, a 7 ½-furlong turf event for fillies and mares.
