Three Rules Gearing Up for July 1 Summit of Speed

Jun 18, 2017
Florida Sire Stakes Hero to Return in G3 Carry Back
Super Hi-5 Carryover of $41,882 for Thursday’s Card

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Trainer Jose Pinchin is gearing up Three Rules for a return to action at Gulfstream Park in the $150,000 Carry Back (G3) on the July 1 Summit of Speed program that will also feature two Breeders’ Cup ‘Win & You’re In’ stakes, the $250,000 Princess Rooney (G2) and the $250,000 Smile Sprint (G3).

The 3-year-old homebred of Shade Tree Thoroughbreds, Tom Fitzgerald and Geoff Roy, who swept the 2016 Florida Sire Stakes Series, has offered two sharp workouts since finishing a troubled third in the $200,000 Chick Lang Stakes on the Preakness Stakes undercard at Pimlico May 20.

The multiple graded stakes-placed son of Gone Astray fired a five-furlong bullet at Gulfstream Saturday, breezing five-furlongs in 59.45 seconds a week after breezing a half-mile in 47.56, the fourth best clocking of 111 workouts at the distance.

“He’s been training good. He came out of his last race really good,” Pinchin said.

Three Rules drew the No. 1 post position for the six-furlong Chick Lang on a day when a drying-out ‘good’ track favored horses running away from in the rail. The Florida-bred colt had to be steadied entering the far turn and finished well to check in third behind loose-on-the-lead winner Recruiting Ready.

“He ran great. It wasn’t a disappointment. He had the rail, and then it rained and he got interfered with just as he was making his move. He had to pull up. He ran great,” said Pinchin. Who also nominated Three Rules to the Smile Sprint.

Three Rules had won his first five starts, all at Gulfstream, before finishing sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Santa Anita last November. This season, the Florida-bred colt finished second in the Swale (G2), third in the Fountain of Youth (G2) and fifth in the Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream before venturing to Pimlico for the Chick Lang.

Nomination lists for the Princess Rooney, Smile Sprint and Carry Back will be released this week.

Super Hi-5 Carryover of $41,882 for Thursday’s Program

There will be a Super Hi-5 carryover heading into Thursday’s program at Gulfstream.

A pool of $82,263.53 was carried over from Saturday’s last race Super Hi-5 when no one correctly selected the exact order of finish of the first five finishers in the $100,000 Soldier’s Dancer Stakes, won by 20-1 longshot Mystic Sky.

An additional $469,593 was wagered on the first-race Super Hi-5. Multiple tickets with the winning combination of 2-6-7-3-5 were each worth $2,737.60.

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 began anew Sunday following Saturday’s mandatory payout of a $5 million-plus pool.

Multiple tickets with five of six winners were each worth $2,739.56, producing a carryover of $8,218.74 for Thursday’s program.
