HALLANDALE BEACH, FL
– Sarah Sharp Farish’s Texting kicked in through the stretch to capture Saturday’s $200,000 La Prevoyante Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park.
The 49th running of the 1 ½-mile turf stakes for older fillies and mares was the first of eight stakes on a star-studded program highlighted by the $16 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1).
Trained by Chad Brown, Texting ($16.80) won the first stakes of her 12-race career while sitting off the pace set by Daring Duchess, who showed the way into the stretch after running the first mile in 1:37.85, and accelerating through the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length.
Ridden by Javier Castellano, the 5-year-old daughter of Candy Ride ran 1 ½ miles in 2:27.88. Daring Duchess held second under Jose Ortiz, three lengths ahead of Taralena and jockey Joel Rosario.
La Prevoyante Quotes
Trainer Chad Brown (Texting):
“She’s a horse who has always been knocking on the door. It maybe took a little time for her to just get the right trip and come around a little bit more. We’ve obviously thought enough of her to try her in a stake before. I’m really proud of her. I thought Javier (Castellano) really rode a good race. For this distance it was a very strong pace in front of them for the first half of the race and I think it really set up for her well.”
Jockey Javier Castellano (Texting):
“I had a beautiful trip, it was as good of a trip as any jockey would like to have. There were a few horses with good speed and we were able to settle around the first turn. I like what she did and I was very impressed with the way she finished in a mile and a half. I basically enjoyed the ride.
