Gulfstream Crushes Weekend Handle Records

Jan 29, 2018
Two-Day Handle $70 Million, Three-Day Handle $81 Million
Record-Setting $41.9 Million Handle on Pegasus World Cup Day
Sunday’s Total Handle $28 Million

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gulfstream Park established new standards for total weekend wagering when all-sources handle on Saturday’s Pegasus World Cup Invitational Day and Sunday’s mandatory Rainbow 6 payout program totaled $70.062 million.

Total handle on Gulfstream’s Friday, Saturday and Sunday programs totaled a record $81.186 million.

Saturday’s Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), the richest horse race in the world won by Horse of the Year Gun Runner, was the highlight of a 12-race program. The all-sources handle of $41,983,881 was the largest single-day handle in Gulfstream’s 79-year history excluding Breeders’ Cup Days.

Sunday’s 12-race program produced a total handle of $28.079 million with $15.788 million wagered on the 20-cent Rainbow 6.

The previous record for a two-program handle was set Florida Derby (G1) Weekend of last year when total wagering was $48.792 million, more than $8 million over 2016 figures.

“This weekend shows what fans should come to expect from The Stronach Group, not only in world-class racing and life-changing wagers, but in entertainment, fashion and food,” said Gulfstream General Manager Bill Badgett. “We had some incredible moments from our athletes on the track this weekend and some remarkable feedback from those attending the weekend program. We will continue to challenge ourselves to engage the public, support horsemen, and create memorable moments.”
