Gulfstream Continues Growing Summer Racing with Rich Stakes Schedule

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL –Highlighted by the Florida Sire Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup ‘Win & You’re In’ $250,000 Princess Rooney (G2) and $250,000 Smile Sprint (G3), Gulfstream Park announced a Spring/Summer Stakes program today worth $4.1 million. 
The Spring/Summer program represents an additional five stakes and $250,000 in additional purse money over last year.
The Princess Rooney and Smile Sprint will be part of the June 30 Summit of Speed. The day will also include the $75,000 Carry Back, $75,000 Azalea and $75,000 Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint.

The finals of the $1.4 million Sire Stakes for 2-year-old colts and fillies – the $400,000 In Reality and $400,000 My Dear Girl - will be run Sept. 29 and will be two of eight stakes contested that afternoon including the $150,000 Wildcat Heir for 3-year-olds and up. The $100,000 opening leg of the Sire Stakes will be run Aug 4 and the middle leg will take place Sept. 1.
The schedule also includes a 10-race series of $100,000 races (six restricted to Florida-breds) which begins May 12 with the $100,000 Big Drama and $100,000 Soldier’s Dancer for 3-year-olds and up and the $100,000 Musical Romance and $100,000 Ginger Punch for fillies and mares.
“Our 2018 stakes schedule reaffirms our commitment to a strong year-round racing calendar in Florida,” said Gulfstream General Manager Bill Badgett. “With a strong stakes schedule and more horsemen deciding to remain in South Florida or keep a year-round presence here, we’re looking at this being the best spring and summer of racing in Florida in a decade.” 
Gulfstream’s Championship Meet, which continues through April 1, will be highlighted this week by the Fountain of Youth (G2), a major prep for the $1 million Florida Derby (G1). Gulfstream will increase purses 10 percent beginning March 7 through the end of its Championship Meet.
