Collmus Invites Fans To Join Him In The Booth

All Proceeds to Benefit Thoroughbred Aftercare Program
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Track announcer Larry Collmus, the voice of Gulfstream Park and NBC's Triple Crown coverage, invites fans to watch him call a race this winter from the announcer's booth for charity.
Beginning Dec. 19 and going through the first week of April, fans can meet Larry and watch him call a race high above Gulfstream Park. A $50 per person donation will go to Thoroughbred Aftercare Program, founded by Gulfstream Chairman Mr. Frank Stronach in February of 2011 and devoted to the care, rehabilitation and retraining of Thoroughbreds no longer in competition.
There will be a limit of six guests in Larry's booth during a race.
Mr. Stronach, who set up a similar program at Santa Anita, has been an industry leader and innovator in the care and retraining of retired Thoroughbreds. Mr. Stronach and his family set an industry precedent eight years ago by developing the first in-house retirement program, Adena Retirement, and they have supported numerous retirement programs throughout the years.
"This is the third year we will be doing this and it's been incredibly rewarding," Collmus said. "Not only does it help support our retired equine athletes, but I have the great pleasure of meeting so many of our fans and guests. It's something I really look forward to."
And no one has a better view of Gulfstream Park and South Florida than Larry, whose booth is four floors above the ground and looks out across Gulfstream, Hollywood Beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
Collmus, a native of Baltimore who got his start at age 18 calling races at Bowie, has been the track announcer at numerous tracks, including Gulfstream and Monmouth. He has called the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes on NBC’s broadcasts for the past three years. He joined NBC’s broadcast of the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita two years ago, calling Royal Delta’s repeat triumph in the Ladies’ Classic in 2012 and Mucho Macho Man's victory in November's $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic.
