Animal Kingdom 2-1 Favorite for Belmont Stakes

 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Animal Kingdom, who wintered at Palm Meadows and began his 3-year-old season at Gulfstream Park, has been made the 2-1 morning line favorite for Saturday’s 143rd-running of the Belmont Stakes.

Preakness (G1) winner Shackleford, second in the Florida Derby (G1), was made the third choice at 9-2 behind Kentucky Derby runner-up Nehro (4-1). Mucho Macho Man, third in the Kentucky Derby, was listed at 10-1.

Gulfstream will be the place to watch, wager and win Saturday on the $1 million Belmont Stakes as well as four other graded stakes. Belmont will also offer $1 million guaranteed Pick 4 and Pick 6 wagers.

Gulfstream will also have a random drawing in which 10 fans will each win a $50 win, place and show wager on a horse of their choosing in the Belmont Stakes. Gulfstream’s luxurious Silks Simulcast center opens at 10:30 a.m. First race post at Belmont is 11:35 a.m.

Several starters in the Belmont started their winter at Gulfstream and its state-of-the-art satellite training facility Palm Meadows.

Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom trainer over the winter at Palm Meadows and started his 3-year-old season with a second-place finish across the turf March 3 at Gulfstream under allowance conditions.

Shackleford spent the winter stabled at Gulfstream and raced three times at Gulfstream, including an allowance victory Feb. 5 and a second place finish April 3 in the Florida Derby (G1).

Mucho Macho Man also wintered at Gulfstream. The colt finished fourth in his 3-year-old debut Jan. 30 in the Holy Bull (G3) before going on to win the Risen Star (G2) at the Fair Grounds.

Brilliant Speed and Stay Thirsty both wintered at Palm Meadows. Brilliant Speed made his two starts of the year across the turf at Gulfstream, finishing second in the Dania Beach and third in the Hallandale Beach before shipping to Kentucky to win the Blue Grass (G1). Stay Thirsty shipped from Palm Meadows to win the Gotham (G3) in New York before finishing seventh in the Florida Derby (G1).

Others entered in Saturday’s Belmont are: Master of Hounds (10-1), Ruler On Ice (20-1), Santiva (15-1), Monzon (30-1), Prime Cut (15-1) and Isn’t He Perfect (30-1).
