Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida will host the 14th running of the Claiming Crown on the opening day of its 2012-2013 meet, Saturday, December 1, 2012. The 2012 event will see a significant increase in purses to $850,000 for seven races with the individual race purses ranging from $100,000 to $200,000. In addition to the six Claiming Crown races conducted at the 2011 event, the Tiara for fillies and mares on the turf will return this year.
Jerry Frankel, Ronald Frankel and Steve Laymon’s Dayatthespa was sent off as the 9-to-10 favorite in a field of eight 3-year-olds fillies in Sunday’s $150,000 Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park, but was all out to hold Steven Ciccarone’s 11-to-1 Regalo Mia safe for a neck victory in the 1 1/8 miles turf test.
Shivananda Parbhoo’s Trinniberg raced to the front soon after the start of the $150,000 Swale Stakes (G2) Saturday at Gulfstream Park and never appeared to be threatened in the seven-furlong test, coasting under the wire six lengths in front of Rey Wan Racing’s 45-to-1 longshot Hello Prince.
Mucho Macho Man towered over his four rivals in Saturday’s $300,000 Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2), physically and competitively, as the strapping chestnut colt rolled to a commanding two-length victory in the mile feature.
