Barbados Champion Jolan Samuel Rides First U.S. Winner at Gulfstream

Jolan Samuel, a leading rider in Barbados, rode his first winner on his very first mount in the U.S., scoring aboard Town of Towns in Sunday’s sixth race at Gulfstream Park.
“It’s very, very exciting,” the 18-year-old native of Bridgetown, Barbados said.
Samuel, who rode the winner of the Barbados Gold Cup last week, made a strong stretch drive along the rail under the Saffie Joseph-trained Town of Towns to launch his riding career in the U.S with a victory.
“Mr. Joseph brought me here just to see what it’s like to ride the big track against the big boys,” said Samuel, who expects to continue to ride in South Florida.
Samuel, who also has ridden in England and Martinique among other places during the past 3 ½ years, won his 105th career race aboard Town of Towns.
