HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – ‘Countdown to the Florida Derby,’ a 30-minute television special on the 60th running of the April 3 $1 million Florida Derby, will air Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. on ABC affiliate, WPLG Channel 10.
Hosted by WPLG’s sports anchor Will Manso and Johanna Gomez, ‘Countdown to the Florida Derby’ will include Andrea Brody’s story on Derby favorite Soldat and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, a feature on track announcer Larry Collmus, a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of jockeys, video of a recent visit by Gulfstream’s top jockeys to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, and Gomez’s shopping trip through The Village At Gulfstream.
“We’re very pleased to be part of such a prestigious event like the Florida Derby,” said producer Steve Zager. “Our special will have something for everyone – showcasing one of the top facilities in thoroughbred racing as well as an exciting entertainment destination.”
Countdown to the Florida Derby will air after ABC’s The Middle and before ABC’s top-rated Modern Family.
