Fast Anna Rolls to Easy 13-Length Victory in Gulfstream Feature
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Regally bred Fast Anna followed up an impressive career debut with an easy score in Sunday’s featured ninth race at Gulfstream Park.
Sent to post as the 3-10 favorite in a field of five 3-year-olds, the Frank Calabrese-bred and –owned colt took command shortly after the start and rolled to victory by a 13 lengths, completing 6 ½-furlongs in 1:16.75.
“This is a special colt,” trainer Kathy Ritvo said. “I want to thank Mr. Calabrese for having the faith in me to give me such a special horse to train.”
The strapping son of Medaglia d’Oro is out of champion Dreaming of Anna, who put Calabrese in the winner’s circle after the 2006 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Fast Anna debuted on April 12 at Gulfstream, scoring by 2 ½ lengths after running six furlongs in 1:09.92.
“We’ll see how he comes out of the race and look for something,” said Ritvo, who also trains 2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Mucho Macho Man. “He’s a talented colt who does everything right.”
One race earlier on the card, Fierce Tide made an impressive winning debut in a five-furlong maiden test. The Douglas Potter-trained 2-year-old colt pressed the early pace and battled his way to victory over late-running Modern Tale by a neck.
Owned by Karen Keen, Fierce Tide paid $37.20 to win after running five furlongs in 59.68 seconds under John Delgado.
The son of Shakespeare is eligible for the Florida Sire Stakes, which gets underway at Gulfstream on Aug. 9 with the runnings of the $100,000 Dr. Fager and the $100,000 Desert Vixen (fillies).
