Marshua's River Upgraded, Gives Gulfstream 33 Graded Stakes

HALLANDALE BEACH – Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino announced today post time will be 12:55 p.m., for its upcoming meet. Gulfstream's world-class thoroughbred racing, which runs from Jan. 5 through April 24, will begin its daily programs 20 minutes earlier than last year.

"We've created a post time that fits nicely nationwide and allows our signal to be showcased throughout the country," said Timothy Ritvo, VP of East Coast Racing, MI Developments Inc. "It allows our fans to enjoy more of the day and it gives us an opportunity to run another race if the situation presents itself."

Gulfstream's 2011 meet will include 46 stakes races – 33 of them graded – worth more than $8 million. Meanwhile, the $100,000 Marshua's River, to be contested Jan. 9, was upgraded earlier this week to a Grade III event by the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association.

"We're honored the stakes committee recognized the Marshua's River and felt as we did about the quality of the race," Ritvo said.

Nearly 1,000 horses have arrived at Gulfstream and its satellite training facility, Palm Meadows, for the upcoming meet. Those horses will include seven Breeders' Cup champions; including undefeated Breeders' Cup Juvenile champion Uncle Mo and undefeated Juvenile Fillies winner Awesome Feather.

Gulfstream's 2011 meet will also include the 60th running of the $1 million Florida Derby, which will be part of Florida Derby Festival Weekend beginning April 1.
