Gulfstream, Palm Meadows Making Mark at Breeders' Cup
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Led by Uncle Mo, Shackleford, Ruler On Ice and Stay Thirsty, 44 horses that either raced or wintered at Gulfstream Park and its state-of-the-art satellite training facility Palm Meadows have been pre-entered for the $26 million Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs November 4-5.
Eight of the 16 horses pre-entered in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic also either wintered or raced at Gulfstream or Palm Meadows. They are: Eclipse champion Uncle Mo, Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Ruler On Ice, Travers (G1) winner Stay Thirsty, Drosselmeyer, To Honor and Serve, Rattlesnake Bridge, Headache and 2010 Florida Derby (G1) winner Ice Box.
Grade I winners entered in the 15 Breeders’ Cup races from Gulfstream and Palm Meadows include: Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford (Dirt Mile), Jackson Bend (co-entered for Dirt Mile and Sprint) Brilliant Speed (Turf), Gulfstream track-record holder Big Drama (Sprint), It’s Tricky (Ladies’ Classic), Giant Oak (Marathon), Aruna (Filly & Mare Turf), Her Smile (Filly & Mare Sprint), Giant Ryan (Sprint), Teaks North (Turf), Get Stormy (Mile) and Jersey Town (Dirt Mile).
The 44 horses from Gulfstream and Palm Meadows also include multiple-graded stakes winners Pomeroys Pistol and Tar Heel Mom (Filly & Mare Sprint) and Aikenite (cross-entered Sprint and Dirt Mile). Also included in Gulfstream’s and Palm Meadow’s entourage include Grade II winners Trappe Shot (Dirt Mile), Musical Romance (Filly & Mare Sprint), Birdrun (Marathon), Headache (Classic), Havelock and Holiday for Kitten (Turf Sprint), and defending Marathon (G3) winner Eldaafer.
