Gulfstream Park to Crown Ms. Racing Queen
Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita Park announced today they will host the first annual Ms. Racing Queen Pageant beginning Sunday, March 3 and culminating with the crowning of Ms. Racing Queen Sunday, March 24 at Gulfstream's Sport of Kings Theater.
The winner of the Ms. Racing Queen title will receive $100,000 from The Stronach Group, parent company of Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita Park, and will be contracted to travel and appear as an ambassador on behalf of The Stronach Group to such major events as the Preakness Stakes, Florida Derby and Santa Anita Derby while promoting Thoroughbred racing. Ms. Racing Queen will also provide behind-the-scenes footage of The Stronach Group events and will provide updates via social media throughout the year. The runner-up will receive $50,000.
Ms. Racing Queen will be hosted by Miss Florida 2013 Michelle Aguirre and Miss California USA 2013 Mabelynn Capeluj.
The five Gulfstream finalists will also be pre-qualified for the 2014 Miss Florida USA Pageant while the five Santa Anita finalists will be pre-qualified for the 2014 Miss California USA Pageant provided they meet state requirements.
Ms. Racing Queen is a unique initiative by the marketing teams at The Stronach Group to attract an even larger audience to its world-class Thoroughbred racing and state-of-the-art and historic facilities in both California and Florida. It's also provides Thoroughbred racing a platform in the pageant world and with new partners.
More than 400 contestants are expected to compete in the unique pageant at both Santa Anita and Gulfstream that will include three semi-final rounds consisting of seminars on handicapping, the racing industry and both the sport's human and equine athletes. The women will also take part in four graded segments: evening wear, Derby wear, Fitness (swimwear) and an interview.
After taking part in semi-final events March 3, 10 and 17 at both Gulfstream and Santa Anita, five finalists from Santa Anita and five finalists from Gulfstream will compete in the finals Sunday, March 24 at Gulfstream. The five finalists from Santa Anita will be flown to Gulfstream Park.
