Gulfstream Runners Take Graded Stakes Races in Kentucky, New York and New Jersey
Horses that raced and stabled at Gulfstream Park or Palm Meadows were in the winner’s circle Saturday after winning graded stakes races at Churchill Downs, Monmouth Park and Belmont Park.
In the $500,000 Stephen Foster (G1) at Churchill Downs, Pool Play, fourth in Gulfstream’s Mac Diarmida (G2) and fifth in the Pan American (G3), rallied from last to win the 1 1/8th mile event over Mission Impazible. It was the 6-year-old’s first start on dirt.
Also at Churchill Downs Saturday, Scotus, who broke his maiden March 23 at Gulfstream for trainer Ken McPeek, won the Matt Winn (G3) while another McPeek-trained 3-year-old, Bizzy Caroline, who raced at Gulfstream, won the $125,000 Regret (G3).
In New York, Awesome Maria, winner of Gulfstream’s Rampart (G3) and Sabin (G3), won her fourth consecutive graded stakes with a victory in the $250,000 Ogden Phipps Handicap (G1). Earlier in the afternoon, Street Game, who wintered at Palm Meadows and raced twice at Gulfstream, won the $100,000 Hill Prince (G3).
At Monmouth Park, Pants On Fire, who wintered at Palm Meadows, won the $200,000 Pegasus (G3) in his first start since finishing ninth in the Kentucky Derby (G1).
