Gulfstream Sets All-Time Handle Record for Florida Derby Weekend
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Gulfstream Park set an all-time handle record for Florida Derby Weekend when total handle on its live races for March 29-30 reached $36.469 million following Sunday's program.
The two-day handle Saturday and Sunday eclipsed the previous mark of $36.064 million set in 2004.
The weekend was highlighted by Constitution's neck victory over Wildcat Red in the $1 million Besilu Stables Florida Derby (G1).
"Florida Derby Weekend was a huge success and, once again, we thank our fans, guests and horsemen," said Gulfstream Park President Tim Ritvo. "It means a great deal to us to break the record during our 75th anniversary meeting and also with so much to look forward to here at Gulfstream Park. With the summer racing season ahead, complete with the Florida Sire Stakes, and with continuing improvements to our facility and property, we believe the best is yet to come for Florida Thoroughbred racing and Gulfstream Park.
"The Stronach Group believes strongly in Thoroughbred racing and we will continue building on this momentum."
