Gulfstream Signs Agreement With FHBPA
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Gulfstream Park announced today that it has signed a contract with the Florida Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (FHBPA) that will begin immediately and run through November 28, 2013.
The contract signed between Gulfstream and the FHBPA is for race purses and other operational matters. The contract for summer racing is separate from the contract for Gulfstream's Champions Meet and will not affect the purses for the traditional season that begins November 29.
"Our agreement with the FHBPA reflects our common goals to build a stronger summer Thoroughbred program in Florida," said Gulfstream Park President Tim Ritvo. "We're proud of what we've accomplished after just six summer racing days. We can see excitement and energy growing and we can't wait to build on that over the next several months."
FHBPA President Phil Combest said: “The FHBPA Board of Directors is extremely pleased with the agreement we reached with Gulfstream. Not only are its conditions fair to the horsemen, but the contract includes incentives which address the ever rising costs of workers compensation insurance. And so far, all indications are that this is going to be a successful first summer season."
