Jockey Latchman Visits from Barbados, Hopes to Stay Longer
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - There was one winning ticket on Gulfstream Park's 20-cent Rainbow 6 Friday and it was worth $73,760.04.
The winning numbers were 8-12-1-6-5-14. The sequence included $53 winner Texas Rustler in the eighth race, Sunset Silhouette, who was placed first in the ninth race and paid $24.60, and $21.40 winner Skiptothegold in the 10th race. The Super Hi 5, which had a carryover of $4,401.06, returned $5,150.50.
Seven of the 12 horses in Friday's last race were alive. There were two live tickets going into Thursday's last race.
The Rainbow 6 will have a guaranteed jackpot Saturday of $50,000 and will start with the sixth race. There will also be a Pick 5 carryover of $17,862. Saturday's 11-race program, which kicks off at 1:15 p.m., includes the $75,000 Soaring Softly at one mile on the turf.
Latchman Visits from Barbados, Hopes to Stay Longer
Jockey Reshawn Latchman, who won the jockey title in 2012 in Barbados, made his second visit to Gulfstream this year. Latchman finished third aboard Take Time to Pray in the third, fifth on Daring David in the fourth and fifth aboard Dreaminofauntdiane in the ninth. The three horses were trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. Latchman rode two races at Gulfstream in February, including a ninth-place finish aboard Dashing David in the Mac Diarmida (G2).
Latchman, the son of jockey Rennie Latchman, will ride during the weekend at Gulfstream before returning to Barbados.
"I'd like to stay (at Gulfstream)," Latchman said. "I have to go back to Barbados to ride a couple horses but then I'm hoping to come back."
Who's Hot: Jockey Jesus Rios had two winners on the day. Rios won the third with Pontos ($7.60) and the seventh with first-time starter Layla Pa Layla ($7.40).
