There was also a long time between victories when City of Weston went to post in Friday’s third race, a contentious six-furlong optional claiming allowance sprint in which the graded-stakes winner made a strong run through the stretch to capture his first race of the year.

“It was nice to win,” trainer Antonio Sano said. “In his last race, he lost by a (head), and this time he got the win.”

City of Weston had gone winless in nine starts since winning the $300,000 Gallant Bob (G3) at Parx last September.

Favored at 8-5 in a field of seven, the 4-year-old son of Holy Bull saved ground along the backstretch before swinging out for the stretch drive and drawing clear by three lengths under Manoel Cruz. Dreaming of Neno, ridden by Juan Delgado, finished second, 3 ½ lengths ahead of County Gun and jockey Jesus Rios.

City of Weston ran six furlongs in 1:12.09 over a sealed fast track.
