The Lead:  Fort Larned has been taking some time off from serious training since his exciting victory in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, but trainer Ian Wilkes will be gearing him up in the near future for a return to action later in the Gulfstream meeting.

“We’re not in a big rush, but the race I’ve earmarked for Fort Larned is the Gulfstream Park Handicap,” said Ian Wilkes, who trains the 4-year-old colt for breeder/owner Janis Whitham.

The Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2) will be run on March 9.

Fort Larned posted a gate-to-wire win in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 following an exciting stretch duel with Mucho Macho Man.

Fort Larned, who captured the Skip Away (G3) last winter at Gulfstream Park, is currently based at Palm Meadows, where he has been jogging and galloping each morning.

“There is plenty of time for workouts,” Wilkes said. “He looks good and is doing very well, I’m very happy with him.”

Who’s Hot:  Jockey Javier Castellano teamed up with trainer Jamie Ness for a double on Friday’s card; Hurricane Girl ($5) in the fourth, My Crazy Dayse ($9.20) in the eighth.

Jockey Rajiv Maragh rode a winner for the second straight day, winning aboard Bringcheckcharlie ($7.60) in the third race. Maragh, who is riding full time at Aqueduct this winter, won on Dynamic Boy ($38.80) in Thursday’s eighth race during the Aqueduct holiday break.

Rainbow 6 carryover: $158,079.63.
