HALLANDALE BEACH, FL– The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved Thursday for the ninth straight program at Gulfstream Park, resulting in a carryover of $147,759.31 heading into Friday's 10-race card.

The 20-cent Rainbow 6, which requires a bettor to hold the only ticket with all six winners in order to hit the jackpot, has been building since Jan. 10, when a single bettor cashed for $30,670.26.

The Rainbow 6 has undergone two key changes for the current meeting. In addition to the base wager being raised from 10 cents to 20 cents, a greater portion of the daily handle for the Rainbow 6 has been returned to winning tickets on days when the jackpot goes unsolved, resulting in a carryover. If no one holds a unique ticket with all six winners, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors with the most winners, while 30 percent goes into the carryover pool. Previously, the split was 60-40 percent.

In the absence of longshots Thursday, the Rainbow 6 paid $412.48 for multiple tickets with all six winners of the final six races on the program.

The formful six-race sequence included Speechify's popular victory in the featured eighth race, a $51,750 optional claiming allowance at 5 1/2 furlongs. The 3-5 favorite won for the third time in five career races, all at Gulfstream, stalking the pace before asserting himself in the stretch to score by a length under Joel Rosario.

The late-developing 4-year-old, who ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.41, overcame chronic issues in his digestive system to win his first two starts by open lengths at six furlongs before faltering and finishing fourth at a mile. After finishing second upon his return to six furlongs, the Ralph Nicks-trained colt got back to his winning ways Thursday.

"His shorter races are better. I tried him long the one time and he didn't finish like I thought he would, so this is where we're at," said Nicks, who trains the son of Harlan's Holiday for Team Valor International. "I'd like to try him at five furlongs on grass at some point."

Who’s Hot: Jockey Joel Rosario, the winning rider aboard Speechify ($3.20) in the eighth race, rode Pegasus Star ($4.20) to victory one race earlier on the 10-race card.
