The Lead: The 10-cent Rainbow 6 carryover climbed over the $1 million mark Thursday when the popular wager remained unsolved by a single bettor with a unique ticket with the winners of the last six races.
The Rainbow 6 carryover will stand at $1,041,870.12 for Friday's program.
There were multiple tickets sold with all six winners Thursday, generating a payoff of $1,134.98.
In order for the Rainbow 6 jackpot to be won, a bettor must be the only one holding a unique ticket with all six winners. If there is no single ticket sold, 60 percent of the day's pool is dispersed to the multiple winning ticket holders, while 40 percent of that day's pool is added to the carryover pool.
Saez on the Mend
Jockey Luis Saez, who suffered a fractured hip on March 9 after a three-horse spill, made a follow-up visit to the doctor Thursday afternoon.
“The Doctor thinks it’ll be four weeks tops, but we’ll go back in two weeks for another exam,” said Saez’s agent Richard DePass. "He's walking around and feeling good. It's just a time issue. He's doing simple exercises at home."
Saez still plans to ride in New York upon the conclusion of the Gulfstream meeting. He hopes to return the saddle to start galloping horses in a week or two.
Saez was third in the jockey's standings with 68 wins when he was sidelined. Jose Lezcano, the fifth leading rider with 53 victories who suffered a sprained ankle in the spill, is scheduled to resume riding on Saturday, when he is slated to ride favored Newsdad in the $150,000 Pan American (G2).
Head outrider Paul Hefner was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for further evaluation after a mishap prior to the running of Thursday's fourth race. Hefner was unseated when his pony was bumped and tripped by loose horse, Truth Faith.
Who’s Hot: Jockey Joel Rosario rode three winners on Thursday's card to close with two victories of leading jockey Javier Castellano, who rode one winner to maintain a 86-84 edge. Rosario visited the winner's circle with Regal Melody ($6.20) in the fourth, It’s Saturday Nite ($4) in the seventh and Saint of Saints ($5.60) in the ninth.
