Juvenile Dekabrist Sets Track Record
Prado Wins Two, Walder Gets the Hat Trick
Only Six More Racing Days Until Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payout

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Trainer Gennadi Dorochenko, who spent his first winter in South Florida this year, watched his 2-year-old colt Dekabrist set a track record in his racing debut in Sunday's first race while drawing off effortlessly to win by 15 1/4 lengths.

Dekabrist, a Kentucky-bred son of Street Boss owned by Raut LLC and ridden by Edgard Zayas, covered the distance in :51.31, breaking the previous mark of :51.39 set last July by Lunarwarfare.

"This is a very good horse," said Dorochenko, who purchased the colt for $50,000 last July. "This is a good horse ridden by a good jockey. He's by a good sire and track record holder, Street Boss."

Dorochenko, a native of Russia who came to the U.S. to ride in 1993, might be best known for winning the 2012 Louisiana Derby with Hero of Order, a 109-1 longshot purchased by Raut LLC for $3,000. This is the first time Dorochenko has stabled at Gulfstream.

"I've been to so many tracks in my lifetime, but Gulfstream is the best," Dorochenko said. "Mr. (Frank) Stronach, I thank him for this opportunity. This is the best team in racing, from Mr. (Tim) Ritvo to the people on the backstretch and everyone else."

Prado Wins Two, Walder Gets the Hat Trick

Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado, who had the second-place finishers in both stakes races Saturday, rode two winners Sunday. Prado'S winners came aboard Palatine Hill ($$4.40) in the fourth race and Dreamlicious ($4.80) in the seventh.

Meanwhile, trainer Peter Walder won three races on the day at Gulfstream. Both of Prado's winners came from the barn of Walder as did the winner of the eighth race, Maydell ($3.40).
